WHAT IF SYDENHAM HAD A CINEMA

Image of the amazing Electric Cinema in Portabello Road

The Film Mill have posted on the Sydenham Forum about bringing a community based Cinema to Sydenham.

What a brilliant idea. See more here.

They have a survey, please have a look.

What do you think? And where would it be?

What did you say on the survey?

In actual fact, Sydenham used to have a cinema in the 1960’s. I remember going to see the film HELP the Beatles film

      Hi Francis,
yes it was, what is now the Co-operative supermarket in the high street. I’m a big Beatles fan. What was the cinema like inside, do you have any other memories of it? There were lots of cinemas in Sydenham at different times. Kirkdale had one (now Georges barbers), The Naborhood Centre used to be one (in a rather lovely building), Silverdale had one (and an ice skating rink).

It’s a real shame we don’t have a cinema still, so many have been lost, but they are always magnificent buildings.

Thanks for finding the site and posting on it.
