BILLINGS is a new fishmonger and butchers arriving in the high street soon in the old shoe repair shop and keycutters . Hmmm, I never did understand why shoes and keys went together. Anyway…
This is what the shop looks like now.
But what if:
The roller shutter is currently bright green. We are not fans of these and this type of shutter which covers the whole of the shop front and they are no longer allowed by planning for Sydenham for new shopfronts. So we thought we would make something that is ugly work a bit harder for the business:
Billings is the new enterprise of Amo, who’s parents run Fresh and Fruity a few doors away. We were incredibly impressed with the plans for the new business and by Amo himself. He may, in time open other branches, so he needed a strong, recognizable marque. So we created the Billings B with the sausage and fish in the spaces. We are rather proud of this one. It is the first What if to become reality and hopefully may prove to inspire other shops in the area to up their game to make Sydenham a more enjoyable, friendly, attractive place to shop, that local people can be proud of.
The shops are the most visible part of the high street. If more businesses put the effort into their appearance that the likes of Trattoria, The Dolphin, Sugahill and Billings do, ALL traders in Sydenham would benefit.

WHAT IF: SYDENHAM... 
Great to see an old fashioned butcher / fishmonger coming to the area. Examples in East Dulwich and West Norwood show it can be done despite the onward march of supermarkets. Looks great too. Looking forward to seeing the interior.

It is a very useful blog for home and commercial security for those who are concerned about security, as I have got from Home Security Shutters .Shutters add a nice touch to a home’s exterior. In other parts of the world, especially Europe and the Caribbean, shutters serve a functional purpose.
NOTE FROM EDITOR: SEE REPLY BELOW. We couldn’t agree less. This is not the Caribbean (and we have always been part of Europe!). Exterior security shutters, especially in high streets make them look like bad parts of the Bronx and actually add to anti-social behavior by making our high streets look like no go areas at night.

I advise EVERYONE not to use these perforated fully covering roller shutters on their businesses or homes.
1. Local planning don’t like them, wont allow them in most cases.
2. They make our town centres look like no go areas at night, therefore breeding anti social behavior.
3. They attract graffiti, therefore breeding anti social behavior.
4. They look awful.
5. They are expensive to install.
The only type we at what if can recommend are the chain link shutters which the company who thought they would get a free ad on this blog don’t seem to do!
If you REALLY want your high street to improve, look at the design of both you and your neighbouring shops. Make the high street more inviting and a nicer place to be. Work with the other shops and your local council, don’t just try to come up with the loudest, gaudiest, tackiest looking shop front and signage.
